We care about the community in which we do business

At Larry H. Miller American Toyota, we feel it is so important to be part of our community and to find ways to give back.

Since 1996, American Toyota along with Larry H.Miller Charities has contributed more than $300,000 to local organizations like El Ranchito del los Niños in Los Lunas, Ronald McDonald House in Albuquerque, Basket of Hope, PB&J Family Services, Boys & Girls Clubs of New Mexico, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of New Mexico.

It is so rewarding to know that we can make a difference in our local Albuquerque community, and we are very grateful to our employees and customers who make it possible to donate to qualified nonprofit organizations.

Children's Cancer Fund of New Mexico 
Larry H. Miller Charities presented an $10,000 grant to help construct and furnish Erin's Place, a facility designed to provide a home-like atmosphere for those children and families who live outside the pediatric hospice area and who choose for their child to remain in Albuquerque to receive care.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico

Larry H. Miller Charities presented an $8,000 grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central NM in support of their mentor 2.0 program.  This is the inaugural year for this program to take place in NM which is great to be a part of. This program has been implemented nationwide and has seen significant results with high graduation rates as well as college enrollments.  This mentoring program is mostly via email and face-to-face once a month and assists students with problem solving, motivation, time management, career exploration, interviewing, leadership, the college admission process, financial literacy and professionalism.

Christina Kent Early Childhood Center

Christina Kent (CK) is a private, non-profit childcare and education program founded by Christina Kent and the Woman's Club of Albuquerque in 1919. CK is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is located in downtown Albuquerque, NM. The mission of Christina Kent Early Childhood Center (CKECC) is to serve the children of economically diverse working families with quality childcare, early education, and nutritional services in a safe and nurturing environment. About 50% of our families are headed by single parents, most of whom are women. They are working to support their families, or going to school to improve their future employment prospects.  Some are doing both! The $5,000 grant was to provide help to upgrade the Teddy Classroom.

Explora Science Museum
July 2015 - Larry H. Miller American Toyota along with Larry H Miller Charities and Toyota Motor Sales, USA provided two organizations in Albuquerque with a $10,000 grant in July.
The $10,000 grant presented to Explora Science Museum will benefit their Youth Intern Program which helps provide 30 high school students multi-year internships where they learn to become skilled science educators, prepare for college and career success, and light sparks of STEM excitement across our community.

Youth Development Inc. (YDI)
July 2015 - Larry H. Miller American Toyota along with Larry H Miller Charities and Toyota Motor Sales, USA provided two organizations in Albuquerque with a $10,000 grant in July.
The $10,000 grant presented to YDI (Youth Development Inc.)  will assist with their computer clubhouse which is designed to give youth ages 8-18 access to computer technology. The Clubhouse is the only one in New Mexico. Adult and peer mentors work with each individual to explore ideas, nurture their talent, and build self esteem through the use of technology.

Loving Thunder Therapeutic Riding

June 2015 - "Doing good in the community is a guiding principle for our group and we're proud to support two organizations that provide such beneficial programs," said Ray Reilly, senior vice president of operations for Larry H. Miller Dealerships.

Loving Thunder will receive a $5,000 grant, which will provide 111 individual lessons, allowing 18 children to participate in a complete six-week therapeutic riding session.

Crossroads for Women
June 2015 - Larry H. Miller Charities presented Crossroads for Women with a $7,000 donation to help implement a summer program, which will run for six weeks and host approximately 15 women and 30 children.
"This program gives children, who have been homeless or transitioned in and out of relatives homes or state custody, the opportunity to bond with their mothers who also participate in the program," said KC Quirk, executive director of Crossroads for Women. 'In addition, it will enable them the opportunity to form new relationships with other children who have faced similar life experiences."

Children's Grief Center

The Children's Grief Center provides support groups for young people ages 5-25 who are grieving the loss of a loved one.  Support groups meet in the evenings throughout the school year at our main campus in Albuquerque near North Valley, as well as in southern Rio Rancho.  During the summer, we offer Good Grief Day Camps for bereaved children ages 7-17 from all  over the state.  All grief support services are provided to bereaved families at no charge, for as long as they need to attend.  The Children's Grief Center receives no state or federal funding, but relies on the generosity of community members like yourself to provide these important, effective services.

Foundation Background

Larry H. Miller Charities is a nonprofit foundation set up in 1995 to operate as the charitable division of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies.  The board of trustees consists of employees from both the automotive and entertainment branches of these companies.  Also serving as trustees are two members of the general public who are interested in the welfare of our communities.  A member of the Miller family retains a position on the board as well.  The total number of trustees is 11.  The board of trustees generally meets every 30-90 days to consider donation requests that have passed an initial review and filtering process.

Funds available for donation come from three sources:
1)    Monthly contributions from Larry H. Miller companies.
2)    Contributions from employees of Larry H. Miller companies.
3)    Contributions from members of the general public via fundraisers.

Funding Guidelines

Funding is provided to groups whose programs and services benefit those who live in the same communities where Larry H. Miller companies do business.  Our giving focuses on programs that assist children, with an emphasis on health and education.  LHM Charities does not normally purchase tables at, or sponsor fundraising dinners, golf tournaments or other similar events.  Donations are not usually provided to start-up groups or programs.  Due to restrictions within the bylaws of Larry H. Miller Charities, we cannot make donations to private individuals or earmark donation funds for use by specific individuals, even through a church or other nonprofit organization.
