The 2015 Detroit Auto Show was awhile ago, but the pickup trucks that made their debut there are still going strong and impressing truck enthusiasts of every kind. Included in the list of trucks debuted at the show was the 2016 Toyota Tundra. The Tundra family of trucks are all produced and assembled deep in the heart of Texas, which means their bigger in stature, power and design quality.
While we could spend all day talking about every upgrade the 2016 Tundra offers, weāll stick to the following:
Differences
While Tundraās exterior remains unchanged from its predecessor for the most part, there are some changes with this yearās hood design and air-intakes. LED headlight and taillights come standard, with an available upgrade option for Xenon headlights.
As for the interior, more of the same. The base Tundra comes with steel wheels, 6.1ā infotainment display, cruise control, keyless entry, cooled and heated seats and blind-spot monitoring.
The new Tundra is available in six different trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1974 Editions and TRD Pro. As for the exterior colors, eleven options are available: Blazing Blue Pearl, Midnight Black Metallic, Black, Barcelona Red Metallic, Radiant Red, Sunset Bronze Mica, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, Inferno and Quicksand.
Under the Hood
Under the hood, the same powerful and efficient engines that have always run in Tundraās lineup make a return. The base engine starts with a 4.6-liter V-8, which produces 310 horsepower and 327 lb-ft of torque.
Higher trim levels are available with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that is able to produce up to 380 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are accompanied by a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Diesel Towing Capacity?
The Tundra does not currently come with a diesel engine, but rumors have been circulating that a 5.0-liter V8 Cummins turbocharged engine that delivers around 300 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque may be available in the near future. The engine offers Tundra fans more power with better fuel economy.
