Uber and Toyota are taking their BFF status to a new level. Itās been confirmed that the transportation provider and automotive giant are joining forces to make a significant dent in the world of rideshare.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Uber stated āToyota is a global leader in the automotive industry and Toyota vehicles are among the most popular cars on the Uber platform worldwide. We are proud to partner with Toyota in a variety of ways, including the expansion of our vehicle financing program.ā
Terms of the deal or the financing program are unknown, however, Toyota released some information lately that points to interest in exploring the future of transportation with Uber. The release claims that the car manufacturer and Uber have āentered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore collaboration, starting with trials, in the world of ridesharing in countries where ridesharing is expanding, taking various factors into account such as regulations, business conditions, and customer needs.ā
No mention of self-driving cars was made in the statement, but one can assume that a company looking into self-driving innovation like Toyota would invest in such. Late last year Toyota put aside $1 billion for the creation of the Toyota Research Institute, whoās main purpose is the development of AI and robotics for self-driving capabilities.
