Yellowstone National Park hopes to be the first national park in America to earn Living Building Challenge Certification for one of its newest construction projects.
The park formerly housed two of its residential youth programs at the Youth Conservation Corps campus. To replace the aging campus, the park is investing in creating a campus with twice the student capacity, and on-site staff housing. Not only will the new facility be bigger and newer -- it will be designed to uphold the values of the park itself.
To earn Living Building Challenge Certification, the new Yellowstone Youth Campus must generate all of its own electricity, and a surplus to feed back into the grid, using solar energy. It will collect and treat its own water on-site, and the interiors will provide healthy natural ventilation and lighting.
Toyota Motor North America is proud to contribute to this project with a $1 million donation, honoring and continuing the automaker's long-standing history with the park.
