Toyota is known for nearly 60 years of off-roading vehicles, including the 4Runner, Landcruiser, Tacoma, and the FJ Cruiser. Now, Toyota is continuing this trend but adjusting based on your wants—smaller and more fuel-efficient SUVs. In response, Toyota introduces the FT-4X concept.

The adventurers are looking to have style, function and user’s experience. To reach this, Toyota is creating a new concept that is “casualcore”—appealing to those who have appetites less than those who are “hardcore” but still thrive on adventure.

The FT-4X, or Future Toyota Four-Wheel Drive, represents a new adventure vehicle for urbanites. It’s compact for the city but can support you on your road trip to the wilderness.

It’s expected to be fuel-efficient with a four-cylinder engine with a true four-wheel drive system. It’ll have comfort and capable MacPherson strut front and double-wishbone rear suspension.

Complete with storage galore, the FT-4X will be ready to combat whatever adventure you put it through, whether you need warming gloves or snacks.

The look? It’s rugged and full of personality with opaque color and tinted glass options. It’s solid and capable with a rugged stance created by its pushed-out wheels.

Don’t forget the tech. A GoPro built into the driver’s side rearview mirror will capture the scenery as you drive. Forgot a sleeping bag? No problem. Pull out the sleeping bag that is in the North Face armrest. Arrive in the dark? No worries. The dome lights can be used as flashlights.

No matter work or play, Toyota visualizes the FT-4X as an SUV that’s ready to go when you are and it’s up to the challenge.
