Toyota Motor Corporation plans to have 100 buses on the streets in time for the summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Sounds like a reasonable goal. What if I told you that they have plans to have 100 hydrogen powered busses ready for the 2020 Olympics? Well, that's the plan.
At the Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota Motor Corporation will unveil two new concepts cars vehicles, the Fine-Comfort Ride and the Sora Bus. The Fine-Comfort ride is just like it sounds, it looks like someone took a modern living room and put a car van around it. It's the size of a minivan and can go an estimated 621 miles on just a single charge.
The Sora bus gets its name from the acronym for "sky, ocean, river, air." It has two fuel cell stacks, two electric motors, a nickel-metal hydride battery and 10 high-pressure hydrogen tanks. Cameras all over the vehicle can alert the driver to potential problems. And yes, they have plans to have 100 of these buses on the streets of Tokyo in time for the Olympics which is just more than two-and-a half years away.
